The Mark 2 continued the use of the very successful XK engine and the car here has the same base engine as the XK150 in the collection. These medium sized sports saloons were very fast for their day and were popular with racers, police and gangsters. The 3.4 litre version here had a top speed of 195kph and reached 100kph in under 12 seconds (the 3.8 litre exceeded 200kph and reached 100kph in 8.5secs).
A highly successful high-volume car, a total of 83976 cars were produced, 28666 in the 3.4 engine size seen here. Production ran from 1959 to 1969. This particular car was subject to a restoration in the 1990's to "as close as possible to original specification and in some regards better-than-new condition". After restoration it was presented at the Manchester Northern Classic Car Show where it won the award for "Best Car at the Show". It has covered less than 2000 miles in the last 20 years since the restoration.
The car joined the collection in 2014.
