Lotus have always been involved in motor racing, saloon sports and formula one. Colin Chapman was always following a minimum weight philosophy and by using a fibreglass body and a steel backbone chassis the Elan weighed just 726kg. It was technologically advanced with DOHC engine, disc brakes and independent suspension. Later the designer of the McLaren F1 supercar said that his only disappointment was that he couldn't give it the perfect steering of the Lotus Elan. The Elan continues to be regarded as one of the purest and best handling sports cars ever produced. Top speed was approx 190kph and it reached 100kph in under 8secs but it's real strength was it's speed and ability through corners.
The Lotus Elan was launched in 1962 and was produced until 1975 in various series and formats.
This particular car is quite a late model with a later "big-valve" engine and is presented in "Gold Leaf" colours.
