A very special car. In the 1960's, John Cooper, owner of the Cooper Formula one racing team worked with Austin and Morris to produce the Mini Cooper, a sportier version of the standard mini. But the Mini was never produced in "Cooper" form as an estate or countryman version. John Cooper garages offered their own Cooper S Traveller - only 6 were produced, 2 were bought by Steve McQueen and 1 by Clint Eastwood. In the 1980's a racing driver in Northern Ireland, Tom Turkington established a Mini-museum. He wanted a Cooper S Traveller but they were not only rare but expensive and so, using a 1968 Mini Countryman he set about recreating a very special car. The car has a genuine 1275cc Cooper engine, bored out to 1340cc, an MG-Metro lead-free cylinder head, servo-assisted brakes, adjustable suspension and a works-type rally dashboard. It sits on 4.5 inch Minilite wheels.
Since this cars recreation to "as new" standard in 1986 it sat in the Mini-museum until 2012 and has only ever
driven 8,100 miles (c 13,000km).
