Good steel at Goodwood
6am start: Chuck on some tweed, walk the dog, quick coffee; time to fire up the Bentley!
In great comfort and style, the R Type took us from Marlow down to Goodwood. The M25 stretch drew many thumbs up and admiring looks from motorists unaccustomed to the two-tone curves of our favourite mile muncher.
As we neared Goodwood, we were in good company. Passing Guildford, the A3 turned into a parade of fine British motors. However, we were in for a bigger treat.
The Goodwood Revival car park is famously one of the great attractions of the 3 day festival, with many of Europe's finest privately owned cars on display. There are literally hundreds of classics from all eras and origins, wearing number plates from all over Europe. It's impossible to appreciate them all in one day, especially with a programme stacked with classic races.
It should come as no surprise that classic motor racing is an exciting sport, but watching Minis and Mk2 Jags slide around the Goodwood circuit lap after lap was pure exhilaration. A real "you had to be there" - the sights, sounds and smells were unforgettable.
We certainly won't be missing Revival 2019. Time to find a new Cravat...
